Here’s a fun time to be had by all! I’m a little bit biased though being Asian and having gone to this festival for the past 10 years. If you’re not busy between the hours of 12 and 5 this coming Sunday, June 10th and happen to be in the Harvard Square area, come on down to the Charles River (near the Harvard Footbridge), where the annual Dragon Boat Festival is being held.

The race itself happens on the Charles River as dragon boat teams from all around the country and from other countries compete. It’s more of a time-honored tradition than a hardcore sports competition. At the same time that this is happening, a large tented stage area showcases different talents to entertain the crowd. There will be dragon and lion dancing, Japanese taiko drumming, Philippine dancing and a traditional Chinese kung fu performance by the
Wah Lum Kung Fu Athletic Association, so there’s something sure to please everyone! Here’s a
schedule of the exact performance times. There will be an arts and crafts tent as well for the kiddies where they can learn origami and Chinese face painting. If you have a hankering for fresh squeezed lemonade, beef satay and chicken korma, no need to wander back into Central Square as food vendors will be out all alongside the tents as well. Don’t miss out!
